Our Adventures In Baby Led Weaning - The first week

I first read about baby led weaning on the internet when looking for information on feeding children. BLW seemed so natural, and I told about this method my husband who supported me. We decided that this would be the most natural method of feeding our child.
Children begin to crawl, walk and talk when they are ready and we give them this opportunity. Why not do it with food?
BLW is a method of introducing solids that is based on the idea that babies should explore food(texture, smell, taste and color). The baby is free to play with their food and taste and eat it at their own pace. It's recommended to wait until 6 months because  the baby is able to sit up properly. Some children are ready earlier and some later.
We decided to wait until just about 5 months and to try the baby led approach. When we started our adventure Kai was 20 weeks (about 5 months).
Kai was born as a big, strong and healthy child. From the eighth week, I fed him a bottle.
My child is at the stage of putting things in their mouths (mouthing), so I decided to give him food instead of a toy ;-).
„Food is just for fun until they are one” I found this saying on the network. I love it!. So we started playing with food.

THE FIRST DAY
An attempt of a rice cake.
"What is it?" ;-) (Kai was chewing a cookie)

THE SECOND DAY
"Do I have to eat?"

THE THIRD DAY
More and more fun. Kai likes to play with the broccoli, and he loves to drink water from a glass(to pour himself).

THE FOURTH DAY
Lunch-Banana.
"Did you want to poison me?" ;-)

Dinner-immortal set.
"I'm beginning to like it."

THE FIFTH DAY
"Something I ate."

THE SIXTH DAY
Apples and broccoli, yummy yummy ...

THE SEVENTH DAY
"I love mango, yummy"

"Broccoli is healthy."

As a mom who chose this method I can share experience, but I can not give you advice when you should start your baby.

  1. Baby-led weaning has been a fun adventure for my little guy too. Isn't it surprising how they just know exactly what to do? Looks like your baby had much better success with broccoli than mine.

    1. After one month, our son got bored with broccoli. We believe that he knows what he's doing.

  2. The little babies are so amazing, how they know how to eat and even drink from a cup! Our baby likes banana though. This is a lovely thing to capture about your baby :)
